Hartford is home to many of the beautiful and extensive parks in Connecticut. These green areas or parks are an important part of the ecologically rich environments that make Harford a beautiful city to live in, and also the perfect place to create new family traditions.
Throughout the Spring and Summer months, many Hartford parks hold events that not only showcase the cities unique talent, but bring together the local community. Bushnell Park, known as the landscape that surrounds our beautiful state capitol, is one of the most noteworthy parks in Hartford. Besides its natural beauty, it has been listed on the national Register of Historic Places since October 1970, and has been the heart and core of the city for over 130 years. During the Spring and Summer months you will often find the park bustling with fun events like Jazz in the Park series, and lined along Elm Street will often be a few food trucks crowded with hungry business professionals.

There is no place quite like Elizabeth Park in the Spring. Tucked in the West End of Hartford and surrounded by beautiful Victorian homes, the park was the first municipal rose garden in the United States. Today, it stands as the third largest rose garden in the country. Believe it or not, the garden is composed of over 15,000 rose bushes, with 800 varieties of old and new roses.
You can spend the whole afternoon strolling through Elizabeth Park’s gardens. And if you begin to get hungry, the park’s Pond House Cafe offers delicious meals with lakeside views and outside seating. Or, pack your own lunch and have a picnic somewhere along the parks 102 acres.
Throughout the Summer, Elizabeth Park hosts ‘Summer Concert Series,’ showcasing a variety of local artists and bands. Keep an eye out this Spring for the concert schedule to be released here.
Keney Park is the largest park within Hartford City, encompassing a total of 694 acres, with 584 acres in Hartford. The main entrance to the park can be found on Greenfield Street and is marked by a pair of beautiful limestone piers. This massive park is home to a plethora of exciting activities, including multiple basketball courts, tennis courts, baseball and softball diamonds as well as an award winning 18-hole golf course. From courts, swimming pools and playscapes to picnic areas and nature trails, Keney Park has something for everyone.
Named after Francis Goodwin, Goodwin park is the perfect spot for any sports players or activity seekers. Within the park you will find a historic and beautiful 27-hole golf course that dates back to 1906, which has recently reopened after undergoing extensive improvements by the Hartford City. Along with a golf course, the park features four tennis courts, a basketball court, and a softball diamond. In addition to the extensive athletic areas, the park offers a spray pool, pond house, playscape, multiple picnic areas, grills and more!
